2010 Kaohsiung International Puppet Theater Festival - 高雄縣國際偶戲藝術節

As my French teacher, Elodie Hsu, proposed to me to work as an interpreter for 2010 International Kaohsiung County Puppet Theater Festival, I had no idea what this festival was about. However, the slogan of the festival: “ALL COMING” deeply interested me, so I decided to accept this offer. This festival is held annually in order to promote the heritages and the development of the three main types of puppet arts in Taiwan: shadow puppetry, hand or glove puppetry (布袋戲), and marionette puppetry. This year, there were at least 21 puppet theater groups from 9 different countries, such as Australia, Korea, Italy, French, Brazil, Bulgaria, etc.

This activity was held in Wei Wu Ying Art Center from 14-21 February 2010. During this period of time, my main responsibility was to accompany a French group of marionette puppetry named Teatro Golondrino and to give them any assistance needed. This puppet troupe was composed by two performers; a 32 years-old French young man, Christophe Croes (middle), founder and leader of Teatro Golondrino and his assistant, Jessie (right), who was responsible for lighting. I love working beside them so much because they were really friendly, funny and energetic.

Since the performance was mainly dedicated to children, many children and their parents came to the stage after the performance and asked Christophe to take picture with them. In spite of fatigue, he always gave his best smile to the audience and never refused their request to take photos with Milo, one of his marionettes.

During this festival, in total, there were 6 performances from Teatro Golondrino; 4 indoor and 2 outdoor. Overall, all of performances were going smoothly and successfully without any serious problem. Moreover, Christophe and Jessie seemed enjoying their stay in Taiwan and were satisfied with my service throughout the festival. For me, I really appreciate this chance because this annual festival allowed me to put into practice my language ability, French and Chinese and provided me such a precious experience in translating and interpreting domain as well.

Note : This interpreting job was very well paid. I got about NTD 3,000/day or about IDR 900,000/day. Not bad for a beginner interpreter like me.

Les Égyptiens se révoltent contre leur gouvernement !

« Après la Tunisie, l'Égypte ! », « Pain, Liberté, Dignité ! », scandaient des milliers de manifestants, mardi dernier, dans les rues du Caire, la capitale égyptienne. Entre 15 000 et 20 000 personnes se sont rassemblées pour demander la démission du président Hosni Moubarak. Certaines d'entre elles, comme sur cette photo, se sont opposées aux policiers anti-émeute qui ont interdit ces manifestations.

C'est encore une fois le manque de liberté et la pauvreté qui ont poussé les Égyptiens à manifester tous les jours dans les rues du Caire, depuis mardi dernier.

Après les émeutes en Tunisie qui ont renversé le gouvernement de Ben Ali, c'est au tour du président égyptien Hosni Moubarak d'être fortement inquiété par son peuple. Cette fois-ci, c'est « Dégage Moubarak ! » que l'on peut lire sur les panneaux des manifestants.

Des mots violents et sans appel, à l'image du malaise qui existe entre le peuple égyptien et le président Hosni Moubarak qui dirige le pays depuis trente ans.

Pourquoi cette révolte ?

Parce que la population vit dans des conditions de plus en plus difficiles: la nourriture de base (huile, farine) est très chère, le travail manque et la police ne leur permet pas de s'exprimer librement. Du coup, les Égyptiens éprouvent un sentiment d'impuissance qui s'est petit à petit transformé en colère.

Ces trois derniers jours, malgré la coupure du réseau Internet - pour empêcher les gens de communiquer entre eux - et l'interdiction de manifester, les Égyptiens sont quand même descendus dans la rue. Mille personnes ont été arrêtées et sept sont mortes, lors des affrontements qui ont opposé policiers et manifestants.

Aujourd'hui, de nouveaux rassemblements sont prévus dans plusieurs villes égyptiennes.

Rakyat Mesir memberontak melawan pemerintah !

«Setelah Tunisia, Mesir berikutnya », «Roti, Kebebasan, Martabat!», itulah yang dinyanyikan oleh jutaan pengunjuk rasa, Selasa lalu di jalan-jalan raya kota Kairo, ibukota Mesir. Sekitar 15 ribu sampai 20 ribu orang berkumpul menuntut pengunduran diri Presiden Hosni Mubarak. Beberapa di antara pengunjuk rasa bentrok dengan polisi anti huru-hara yang melarang aksi unjuk rasa ini.

Adalah kurangnya kebebasan dan kemiskinan yang mendorong rakyat Mesir untuk berdemo berhari-hari di jalan-jalan kota Kairo sejak Selasa lalu.

Setelah kerusuhan di Tunisia yang menggulingkan pemerintahan Ben Ali, sekarang giliran Presiden Mesir Hosni Mubarak yang terancam oleh rakyatnya sendiri. Dalam unjuk rasa kali ini, «Turun Mubarak» banyak tertulis di papan-papan yang dibawa oleh para demonstran.

Kata-kata kasar dan nyata, adalah gambaran ketidakharmonisan antara rakyat mesir dan Presiden Hosni Mubarak yang telah memimpin negara tersebut selama 30 tahun.

Mengapa pemberontakan ini terjadi?

Penyebabnya adalah karena penduduk Mesir hidup dalam kondisi yang makin lama makin sulit: makanan pokok (minyak, tepung terigu) sangat mahal, kekurangan lapangan pekerjaan dan polisi tidak mengizinkan mereka untuk berekspresi secara bebas. Akibatnya, rakyat Mesir merasakan ketidakberdayaan yang perlahan-lahan berubah menjadi kemarahan.

Tiga hari belakangan ini, walaupun terjadi pemutusan jaringan internet untuk mencegah pengunjuk rasa berkomunikasi dan larangan untuk berunjuk rasa, penduduk Mesir tetap turun ke jalanan. Ribuan orang ditahan dan tujuh orang meninggal dunia saat terjadi bentrokan antara polisi dan pengunjuk rasa.

Hari ini, beberapa kumpulan massa diperkirakan akan muncul di beberapa kota di Mesir.

Soutenance de mémoire - Thesis Defense

On Thursday, 13 May 2010, in Gong Jian Hall, an academic defense of Department of French took place. I can say that it's the last formal presentation in my university life.

In this thesis defense, we have to make a 10-12 minutes presentation of our thesis in French. After that a group of juries, composed of 5 professors (Jean-Pierre FU, Christine YONG, Claudine CHENG, Claire TSAI and Patrick LIU) is going give some comments, suggestions and critics. They have also rights to ask some questions about what we have written in the thesis.

In my university (Wenzao Ursuline College of Languages), the thesis defense differs from other universities because after the presentation, the juries will choose the best thesis and give them a prize (starting from this year, there will be no more prizes), it's really disappointing.

La belle et la bête

French version of the famous story "Beauty and the Beast" written by Jeanne Marie Leprince de Beaumont. Actually this is one of stories that I must read so as to prepare my French Children's Literature mid-term examination on Wednesday 04/29. I hope that I will be able to do well. Actually, I'm still struggling to fall in love with literature since, honestly, I don't like reading so much.
