In this article, I'm trying to give a brief introduction about some Firefox Add-ons that, in my opinion, will be useful for you.
First of all, as we all know, Firefox is considered as the biggest competitor of Internet Explorer which, until now, becomes the first choice we have as we surf on Internet since this initial web browser is included in any Microsoft Operating System, such as Windows XP and Windows Vista. However, recently Mozilla Firefox has succeeded in seizing over 22% of Internet users all over the world. The question: why Firefox could become so popular among Internet surfers? The answer of this question might be various but we all agree that the key factor playing an indispensable role in this slow-but-sure campaign must be FIREFOX ADD-ONS.
What is it Add-ons?
Add-ons are installable enhancements to the Mozilla Foundation's projects (and compatible variants such as Portable Firefox). Add-ons allow the user to add or augment application features, use themes to his or her liking, and handle new types of content. (Definition from Wikipedia.com)
Therefore, we can make some modifications in our Firefox browser including theme's change and adding some practical and helpful features.
Here I'd like like to recommend some "gorgeous" add-ons I've used so far:
1. IE Tab
= invented by a Taiwanese programmer, this is a great extension for web developers, since you can easily see how your web page displayed in IE with just one click and then switch back to Firefox.
2. Fast Dial
= it's a cool tool to design your own home page. You can put up to 12 links to your favorite websites in one page. Very practical for surfers who don't want to search their favorite websites in Bookmarks because all can be found in the home page.
3. New Tong Wen Tang (新同文堂)
= NewTongWenTang is a tool to switch display Chinese content between traditional and simplified glyphs (中文繁簡體互轉工具). It's very useful especially for Chinese learners because they don't need to be afraid anymore to search some information in traditional characters. Nice invention!!
4. WebMail Notifier
= WebMail Notifier checks your webmail accounts and notifies the number of unread emails.
You can use multiple accounts in a same host. So far it supports : Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, Daum, Naver, Empas, Nate and more.
5. FootieFox
= for football's lovers, this extension might be their best friend because it provides football scores for over 200 leagues and cups of 60 countries - live and almost instantly.
6. Cooliris
= Cooliris is simply the fastest and most stunning way to browse photos and videos from the Web or your desktop. Effortlessly scroll a "3D Wall" of your content from Facebook, Google Images, YouTube, Flickr, and hundreds more.
7. Coolpreviews
= Preview links and images without leaving your current page or tab. Just mouseover any link, and a separate preview window immediately appears to show you the content.
These are just some of Firefox extensions I've ever used so far. For more add-ons, just try and experience it by yourself and you'll certainly understand why more and more people starts using Mozilla Firefox as their main browser.
